BUCKY kept his gaze on her. watching as she took her jacket off. she seemed guilty. he doubted she’d been properly walked home before she even confirmed it. the streets WEREN’T safe. especially not for a girl. he’d trust his sister could take care of herself, but with her out on the street in the near dead of NIGHT – a man could worry. especially an older brother. especially BUCKY BARNES.
“damnit,” he cursed, rubbing his hand over his face. he wasn’t going to yell at her. anymore than he already was, that is. “jus’ – don’t do it AGAIN. i’ll come get ya’ if y’ever NEED, bec.”
a soft SIGH PASSED THROUGH her lips. she knew that she shouldn’t have walked home alone; it had been stupid and reckless but she didn’t want to bother her brother. she knew that he had to work hard to make sure that they had some food on the table and were able to keep the roof over their heads. she couldn’t just expect him to drop everything just to come pick her up. finally looking up at her brother, she took a step forward and wrapped her tiny arms AROUND HIS MIDDLE, her head resting against his shoulder.
“ I know, but I didn’t want to bother you. you have far more important things to worry about. ”
BUCKY had seen no note on the table. he wondered if the girl forgot the windows had been open to let the house air while no one was home. he’d have looked around for it if he known. but he hadn’t. instead he had been worried wondering where his LITTLE sister was. note or not – did she know how LATE it was? “did s’mone walk ya’ home?” he asked, looking her over. “late as hell – y’should know bette’.”
rebecca bit DOWN ON HER LIP as he questioned her and silently scolded herself for not having someone walk her home. she knew that the streets weren’t safe at night but she thought that being in a group meant that they would be alright. if she knew they were going to be as late as they were, then she would have gotten someone to walk them home. she was the last one to go home after dropping her one friend off a block away from where she lived with her brother. slowly sliding her jacket off, she placed it on the back of the chair, not even LOOKING UP TO MEET his gaze.
“ I walked with them home. rachel, who lives down the block was the last one and then I came straight here. we just sort of lost track of time. i’m really sorry buck.”
BUCKY’S hand came to slap against the wall as soon as she walked inside. he was the only one awake – let alone home. getting back from work and seeing the house EMPTY – his younger sister NOWHERE to be seen had put him in a bit of a worry. this wasn’t some little country town. this was brooklyn. when she finally walked through the door, he was about to call STEVE and ask if he’d SEEN her.
“y’kiddin’ me? where the ‘ELL ya’ think y’ve been?”
she had been OUT WITH FRIENDS that afternoon and then planned on going dancing after they grabbed a quick bite to eat. she had left a note on the table by the door to inform her brother where she would be but as the door shut, the gust of wind blew it off and onto there floor where it was hidden from view. it got dark as she made her way home. when she opened the front door, she jumped at the sound of a hand slapping the wall. she froze when she saw HOW ANGRY he was.
“ I went out with my friends didn’t you get the note I left for you? It was on the table! ”
SHE was touching him. he wanted to shake her hand off. smack it away from his face. but giving her a violent reaction was something the SOLDIER would do. and he was doing his best NOT to be that. instead, he jerked his head away from her. easy, a tilt back of his chin – and she wasn’t touching him anymore. as gentle as it had been – and as SHAKY as her fingers were, he did not want it.
( didn’t deserve it. )
“the hell you know,” his voice was steel. “how’re you – i’m not – leave me alone.”
she FLINCHED at his reaction but she stood her ground. she wasn’t going to leave him; she wasn’t going to lose her brother like she had all those years ago. it didn’t matter to her, she was here and she would try to help him through whatever it was that he was dealing with. she took a slow step back and held her hands up a bit so he could see she didn’t mean him any harm. she knew that it was going to take a lot for him to believe her, but she HAD TO START somewhere.
“ I am. I know this is hard to believe but it’s all real. wanda brought me back. I don’t know why but she did and I’m here. i’m not some trick of the mind either. you know me buck; you were there for me when I needed you. just like I am going to be here for you. that’s what family does. I don’t expect you to trust me right away, but I promise, I’m not going to hurt you and I’m not going to leave you . you have MY WORD. ”
he looked and SOUNDED like her brother, but he wasn’t the same boy she remembered. the one who made her laugh at his stupid jokes, the one who promised that he would never leave. no, that boy was gone and in his place was something different. she watched his subtle movements unsure of how to proceed.
taking a deep breath, she took a slow step forward, then another and before she knew it she was standing right in front of him. with a SHAKY hand, she reached out and gently hooked her index finger beneath his chin. she wasn’t afraid of him but she wanted him to trust her which meant no sudden movements. a small smile formed on her lips as she looked him in the eye.
“ i’m here because my BIG BROTHER needs me. you don’t have to go through this alone. ”

05. Rebecca is a character that is not mentioned much in the comics other than being Bucky's sister and she was also not mentioned in the MCU. So therefore I have shifted things around to make her fit into the MCU. If you would like to know more about my intrepretation of Rebecca you can click here.

REBECCA E. BARNES Wife, Mother & FriendOctober 28, 1923 - November 1, 2013
Less than one year after Rebecca passed away, she found herself awake in the middle of a clearing. Afraid, Rebecca ran and found herself far away from her hometown of Brooklyn, NY. She knew enough of the landmarks of this new city to realize that she was now in Washington, D.C. As she walked along the streets, she managed to glance into a reflective surface to see that she was no longer the 80 year old woman who lived in a nursing home; she was back to her old self -- her 18 year old self. It was then that she was approached by a familiar face -- Steven Rogers. She had heard about him time and time again, but she mainly kept a low profile. He had his new life and it was one that she was not a part of anymore.
With his help, she managed to secure a small apartment that was kept off of S.H.I.E.L.D.S radar. It seemed as if she was given another chance at life and that, she was not going to take advantage of. Rebecca managed to get into Georgetown University to study Business. During those four years, a ghost from her past came around. She found out about her brother and the evil that he had done. Knowing that all of it had been out of his control, once she graduated in the spring of 2018 she enrolled at Harvard Law School where she currently resides and works as a legal aide for one of her professors. With what freetime she does have, Rebecca uses her skills to help her brother and his friends stay below the radar.
