BUCKY.
He accepted the blanket, smiled at her, and replied with a quick ‘love you too’, before letting his eyes look to the ceiling once more. There were still some old holes from when he’d hung things up as a kid, almost forming strange constellations. Tiny paper planes he’d make, hung up with string. He’d taken them down when he’d entered his teens–too big for kid stuff–but the places they had been remained.
He had drifted off himself when he almost fell out of the bed from her thrashing, the sound of her scream in his ears finally pushing him off in his panic. He could already hear footsteps in the corridor, their other siblings no doubt coming to check on her, noticing Rebecca’s empty bed. He called to them before they could come in, telling them to go back to bed, that there was nothing to worry about. They were hesitant–he could hear it in their steps–but they left again, and he scrambled up from the floor.
“Rebecca, wake up,” he said urgently, gripping her by the shoulders, kneeling over her. “It ain’t real, Becca, wake up. I’m here, I’ve got you. You’re safe, c’mon, wake up.”
It was times like these he wished desperately he had paid more attention to what their parents would do. The best tools he had were his instincts and that wasn’t much. You could learn a lot by having three siblings, but it wasn’t the same. He didn’t have their mother’s gentle touch, or their father’s comforting voice. Often he felt useless. Watching Mrs Rogers with the girls sometimes helped, but it wasn’t much.
she felt as if she was TRAPPED IN HER OWN MIND; unable to wake up from the horrible nightmare that continued to play on and on. soon there was another voice in the picture. it didn’t sound angry or vicious; it was pleading with her and told her that he had her and she was safe. one final scream left her lips as blue eyes flew open. sitting up quickly, her body trembled as she tried to fill her lungs with as much air as SHE POSSIBLY COULD.
the grasp on her shoulders brought her back to reality and turning her head, she was met with a pair of big, blue eyes bucky. the man was gone and she was with her brother; she was safe now. dropping forward her arms wrapped around him loosely and the tears began to run down her cheeks. she experienced nightmares before, but they never repeated themselves the way this one was. usually they happened one time and it was over so she couldn’t understand why this one just wouldn’t let go.
the tears gradually stopped falling down her cheeks and ANY ENERGY THAT SHE HAD was gone. her arms drooped to the sides and her head flopped against her brothers shoulder. she was tired and knew that she needed sleep but sleep was not something that she wanted or welcomed at that moment. all she wanted was a peaceful nights sleep, not one where she woke up screaming. lifting her head up a bit, she looked at her brother with sad eyes.
“ I just want sleep, I can’t sleep. why won’t it stop, I just want it to stop. ”
