BUCKY.
“Language,” Bucky said automatically, recalling the many times their mother used to admonish him for swearing, usually accompanied by a swat with whatever she had to hand. But there wasn’t any bite behind the word, and he moved along with her, tucking his arm under her neck, still holding her. There was a bit of light coming through a slit in the curtains, and he could just about make out her face in the gloom.
A quiet sigh left through his nostrils, and he pulled her closer. Once sure the blankets were tucked around her, as he would when she was much smaller and he was on babysitting duty, he pulled away a little again.
It had been hard having to be brother and parents in one. Some days he’d sit with his door closed, staring at one of the walls, wondering how he was meant to do it. Keep them all under the same roof, even with their family helping, even with his jobs. The girls had to cook for themselves–how often was he too tired to even do that? And the months when all the money had to go on just keeping them alive, rather than new clothes they needed, or getting to go to the movies, or the beach, or the fair, or anything Bucky had enjoyed as a kid with Steve, well, they were hard. He wondered sometimes if he was making a massive mess of it all.
“When I had nightmares,” he murmured back, looking up at the ceiling, “Da used to come sit with me, and promise to fight them away. I’d do that for you too.”
a CHUCKLE ESCAPED HER lips as he got on her about swearing. she didn’t remember much about her mother since she was so young when she had passed, but she could see her mother getting on him if a word slipped out here and there. with his arm holding her close, she rolled over on her side a bit completely wrapped up in the blankets. they weren’t the thickest blankets but they didn’t exactly have a lot of money at the moment. all of the money the had WENT TO BUYING FOOD and keeping a roof over their heads.
moving one of her arms, she tugged a bit of the blanket over so that it was covering him; this was his room after all and she didn’t want him to be cold. she felt bad for her brother having to work all the hours that he did. she could remember all the times he would come home tired after a long day and she would make him a simple dinner of whatever it was that they had on hand. it wasn’t much but they were all just thankful to even have food.
“ I love you bucky, and THANK YOU ”
as those last few words left her lips, rebecca found her eyelids drooping shut and she drifted off to dreamland while wrapped up in her brothers embrace. she had no idea how long she had been sleeping for when the man from before reappeared in her dreams but this time he seemed different; he almost seemed angrier at her. angry at her for confiding in her brother about what she had seen. as he inched closer, the brunette screamed, tossing and turning in her brothers bed.
“ no no no leave me ALONE NO PLEASE, please stop no! ”
